Youth Financial Literacy Foundation

Did you know that 18 to 24 year olds are the fastest growing age group filing for bankruptcy? The struggles of the economy have put heavy emphasis on the importance of educating today’s youth towards preparing for a secure financial future. By establishing how to make smart monetary choices and understanding basic financial principles, we can be sure that the children and young adults of today have the tools for success to achieve a stable economic tomorrow. Join the Youth Financial Literacy Foundation in distributing financial education across our nation!

Our Mission

The Youth Financial Literacy Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the knowledge and expanding educational opportunities for today’s youth towards financial responsibility. Our efforts are to ensure the young people of today are in preparation to monetarily stabilize and succeed in their economic futures.

The YFL establishes programs for children and young adults that will enhance their understanding of key financial concepts and provide the materials necessary to present a lasting education which they will carry with them throughout their lifetime.

Scholarship Program

Each year, the Youth Financial Literacy Foundation donates scholarships to college students to aid in the advancement of their education. These scholarships are awarded based on a series of questions and an essay submitted by the student regarding a distributed financial topic. Our hope is that the research and development to produce the answers and essay will open up the conversation and mindset towards their enhancement of financial knowledge.

FamilyMint is an award-winning online money management and goal-setting application that offers an engaging way for kids to learn financial responsibility. It’s easy for kids to use, lets them connect their money with real-world meaning, and most importantly, learn by doing. It’s available via both web and mobile interfaces.

The Youth Financial Literacy Foundation has selected multiple program leaders across the US to go into classrooms (Grades 5-9) and present the FamilyMint program. After the initial presentation, the teacher will work with the students to complete the Money Management Certification Program book. Upon completion of this two month program, the program leader will return to the classroom to hold a celebration, awarding the children their program completion certificate and present the school with a donation of $500.

Freshman Protection Plan

The Freshman Protection Plan is a program consisting of UltraScore: Credit Analyzer and Education Center and LifeLock: Identity Theft Protection. This plan is offered each fall to graduating high school seniors entering into college. At a time when young adults are just beginning to build their credit profile, UltraScore offers them detailed information on the importance of monitoring their credit score. The program will display any existing items that appear in their credit profile in an easy-to-understand format, as well as offer tips and tools to ensure they get their financial profile started on the right track.

LifeLock, the industry leader in identity theft protection, will monitor the student’s credit profile and applications to protect them against the harmful effects of identity theft.

This year’s applicants have been chosen. Please check back for the next enrollment opportunity. If you are currently enrolled in the Freshman Protection Plan and need any assistance, please contact 248-848-9065.
